East Texas CASA sets Mahjong fundraiser in Longview

East Texas CASA will hold a Mahjong fundraiser Feb. 12 to support the organization’s efforts helping children in foster care.

The event, named “Valentiles,” will take place 6 to 8 p.m. at the East Texas Builders Association Event Center, 2023 Alpine Road in Longview. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

The cost to participate is $100 per individual and $350 for a table of four. Games are not provided, but snack foods and wine will be served.

To register, people can visit givebutter.com/qfFW2N.

Sue Todd, executive director of East Texas CASA, said: “The Valentiles event is to bring awareness to CASA, to provide a fun activity for the players in the area and to provide funds for CASA to continue to serve children in foster care.”

Volunteers with CASA – which stands for Court-Appointed Special Advocates – are trained to help children whose families are in crisis. Those volunteer advocates accompany children to court hearings and communicate with judges, making unbiased recommendations about whether children should be reunited with their families or moved into the foster care system.

Advocates also supervise visitations between parents and their children as ordered by a court.  East Texas CASA serves Gregg, Upshur and Rusk counties.
