Cavender’s Boot City investing $5 million in new Edinburg location

Edinburg’s economic arm on Tuesday announced that Cavender’s Boot City is investing $5 million into a new location there that will generate 15 new jobs.

In a news release, the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation said that Cavender’s Boot City and Whitco PGP Properties A, L.P. purchased the former CVS at 2820 W. University Drive.

“The project represents approximately $5 million in total investment for facility improvements and infrastructure upgrades, and will create around 15 full-time jobs for local residents,” the release stated.

The location is in one of Edinburg’s busiest commercial corridors that sits near UTRGV. The release said the location is expected to generate more than $4 million in annual retail sales during its first five years of operation.

“This revenue will boost the city’s sales tax base, supporting essential services and programs that benefit the entire community,” the release stated.

Aaron Rivera, Edinburg EDC board president, said the city is excited to welcome Cavender’s Boot City.

“This investment shows the confidence that major retailers have in our community’s growth and potential,” Rivera said. “The project will create good jobs, expand shopping options for residents, and generate revenue that supports our city. We’re grateful to the Cavender family for choosing Edinburg as their newest Rio Grande Valley location.”

Mike Cavender, owner of Cavender Stores LP, said the company is thrilled top enter the Edinburg market and to join the growing community.

“The Rio Grande Valley has a strong western heritage, and we look forward to serving families in Edinburg and surrounding areas with the same quality and service that Cavender’s has been known for more than 60 years,” he said in the release.
