The countdown begins as the prize for a Lotto Texas ticket purchased in a popular Brownsville bait shop has not been claimed yet.

Specifically, if your ticket matches all six numbers drawn Saturday — 7-17-23-28-39-48 — then you have 180 days starting Nov. 15 to claim the $78 million prize.

According to the Texas Lottery, the jackpot-winning ticket was purchased at Gordon’s Bait & Tackle where the winner selected the cash value option at the time of purchase, so the claimant will receive an estimated $43.6 million before taxes.

Aside from the standard 5% sales commission, the organization said the popular shop at 7066 Padre Island Highway in Brownsville won’t receive a retailer bonus.

Beginning as an advertised $5 million prize for a Feb. 19 drawing, the winning Lotto Texas jackpot stretched a record 116 drawings prior to Saturday’s hit. Ending at an advertised $78 million, the win is the sixth largest jackpot in Lotto Texas history.

The record for the largest jackpot in the game’s history is $145 million, with the ticket purchased in El Paso and drawn on June 19, 2004, according to the Texas Lottery. Brownsville is now the only Rio Grande Valley city in the top 10 Lotto Texas jackpot wins, with the previous southern Texas city on the list being Corpus Christi during a draw in 1994.

“We are thrilled that a lucky player purchased the jackpot-winning ticket for this long-awaited Lotto Texas jackpot win, which is one of the largest in the game’s history,” said Courtney Arbour, the executive director of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which oversees the Texas Lottery.

“We look forward to meeting and congratulating the winner when they come forward to claim the prize,” Arbour said. “If you believe you are the lucky ticket holder, please sign your ticket, keep it in a safe place, seek financial and legal advice, and call the Texas Lottery to schedule an appointment to claim your prize.”
