Three members of the Paisa gang were given time in prison after they assaulted two federal corrections officers at the East Hidalgo Detention Center during a prison riot.

Oscar Ambrocio Hernandez, Ruben Gonzalez-Balderas and Roger Emmanuel Lemus were charged with assault, according to a news release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas.

Hernandez, Gonzalez-Balderas and Lemus were given prison time of over 11 years, over 10 years and nearly 5 years, respectively.

The inmates were already in custody for pending federal immigration charges.

According to the release, they outnumbered the officers and repeatedly punched and kicked them in a gang-designated facility.

“One inmate wielded a sock with a bar of soap as a weapon during the assault,” the release said. “One correctional officer sustained injuries that resulted in multiple staples in his forehead.”

An additional seven inmates were also sentenced between four to 10 years for the assault.
