Child injured in Wichita Falls DUI crash; mother charged

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — A Wichita Falls mother is behind bars after allegedly driving while intoxicated and crashing her vehicle with her 3-year-old child unsecured in the back seat.

According to police documents, Wichita Falls Police Officers responded to a crash just after 10 p.m. Saturday night. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle with heavy front-end damage and a small child being carried by a nearby couple.

The couple told officers they live in the area and came outside after hearing a loud crash. They said the driver, later identified as Juanita Mack, was “hysterical” and pleaded with them to “take my kid and give her to my mom so CPS doesn’t take her from me.”

The woman said she found the child in the back seat of the smoking vehicle, unrestrained by a car seat or seatbelt. The couple told police that when they asked Mack if she had been drinking, she admitted she was “buzzed.” Mack then reportedly gave them a phone number and again asked them to give the child to her mother.

Officers confirmed the wrecked car did not contain a car seat and determined that Mack was intoxicated.

The child was taken to United Regional for treatment of lacerations, bruising, and a mild concussion. Mack was also transported to the hospital, where she told police, “I put my daughter in so much danger,” according to the report.

Following a medical evaluation, Mack was charged with driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 and abandoning or endangering a child. She was later booked into the Wichita County Jail on bonds totaling $10,000.
