The Playmaker is coming to town.

Michael Irvin, a Hall of Famer for the Dallas Cowboys and a three-time Super Bowl champion wideout, will be in the Rio Grande Valley next month for the McAllen Holiday Parade.

Irvin will be hosting the English broadcast of the parade, scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium on 2001 N. Bicentennial Blvd. in McAllen.

In a promotional video, Irvin expressed gratitude and excitement to have been invited to host the show.

“I am officially joining the McAllen Holiday Parade as your new English broadcast parade host. I can’t tell you how excited I am to be here, so I want you guys to make sure you meet me on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Memorial Stadium where we will light fire to this whole world with this Christmas special,” Irvin said.

“Let me also say this to anybody in McAllen, you know it’s one of my favorite places to visit: I can’t tell you how appreciative, how happy, how glad I am that you guys are inviting me to come to your party. It’s such a moment.”

During a 12-year career in the NFL, Irvin accounted for 11,904 yards on 750 receptions for the Cowboys, racking up 65 touchdowns and averaged 15.9 yards after catch.

He was also known for being a leader in the locker room and exhibiting a fiery passion on the sidelines, and remains a staunch supporter of Dallas and advocating for the team’s success on sports shows like First Take on ESPN.

It’s also where the Peña Eye Institute announced it was bringing the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Rowdy the ’Boys’ mascot and the Hall of Fame trailer back to the parade as well.

The parade is in its 12th year and is “presented by H-E-B and powered by Bert Ogden Auto Group,” according to a city news release.

Opportunities to volunteer were also highlighted by the city, which pitched it as putting you “right in the middle of the magic.”

“Every year, it’s our volunteers who make the McAllen Holiday Parade truly shine,” Villalobos said in the release. “They bring the spirit of our community to life, helping create memories that last a lifetime. If you’ve ever wanted to be part of something magical, this is your chance.”

You can volunteer at the parade by calling the Las Palmas Community Center at (956) 681-3350 or emailing pardvolunteers@mcallen.net to inquire.

“It’s a point of pride for our city, drawing thousands of visitors and national attention for our dazzling floats, larger-than-life balloons, celebrity guests, and that unmistakable McAllen spirit,” Tawil said of the parade’s significance in McAllen.
