Community gathers to support Jacksonville PD officer released from hospital

TYLER, Texas (KETK) – The Jacksonville Police Department officer who was injured in Sunday’s shooting, where Bobby Dennis allegedly shot both the officer and her K-9, sparking a four-day manhunt, was released from the hospital today.

The City of Jacksonville said the injured officer was escorted back to Jacksonville from Tyler by a convoy of law enforcement vehicles at around 3:20 p.m. on Friday.

“That’s what’s pretty neat about the City of Jacksonville. I lived here 61 years. Although we’re a small city, it’s a community,” Mayor of Jacksonville Randy Gorham said. “Everyone feels like their family and one of us hurts, we all heart. We all try to come to each of our rescue, whether we’re assisting in this or anything. So it was just great. Warms my heart to see the citizens of Jacksonville come out and support one of our officers.”

The vehicles gathered at UT Health Tyler where the officer was treated for her two gunshot wounds and the city of Jacksonville asked residents to gather near along U.S. Highway 69 by EAG Ford, Bannister Plumbing and Teknor to greet her as she rides home.
