1 dead after Thursday night shooting in Lufkin, suspect arrested
LUFKIN, Texas (KETK) — A man is dead after a Thursday night shooting in the 200 block of Bowles Street in Lufkin.
The Lufkin Police Department said gunshots were reported at around 10:40 p.m., and when officers arrived at the scene, they located a man “who had been shot multiple times.” Despite attempts to save his life, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect has been identified as 49-year-old DeMarcus Jones, who has since been charged with murder for the death of Tyrone Williams.
Jones was not at the scene when officers arrived; however, witnesses provided law enforcement with information on where he was staying, and an overnight detective located the apartment in the 500 block of Charlton.
Detectives saw a man leave the apartment; identifying the man as Jones, officers arrested him without incident. Witnesses said there was a verbal disturbance between the two that turned physical.
A weapon has been recovered with the same caliber as the spent shell casings. Jones is being booked into the Angelina County Jail with a pending bail.
