Lindale home a total loss after chimney fire

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK) — A chimney fire destroyed a large brick residence in Lindale on Tuesday morning, leaving the property a total loss.

Multiple units from the Lindale and ESD2 fire departments were dispatched at 7:49 a.m. to the 12300 block of County Road 495. According to Smith County Deputy Fire Marshal Barron Wedgeworth, crews attempted to save as much of the property as possible, but the home was ultimately declared a total loss. “It was a very hot fire and it expanded quickly.” Wedgeworth said.

The cause of the fire was initially unknown, but after further investigation has been confirmed to have been the cause of a chimney fire. “The fire spread into the attic of the residence from a chimney fire and was determined to be accidental. The residence was a total loss and there were no injuries,” Fire Marshal Chad Hogue said.

Hogue added that homeowners should have their chimneys cleaned and inspected annually to help prevent similar fires.
