City Council approves purchase of Kirby Middle School

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — The Wichita Falls Police Department will soon have a new home as the city moves forward with the purchase of a former school building.

On Tuesday, November 4, the Wichita Falls City Council approved the purchase of Kirby Middle School.

In August, the city made the lone bid to purchase the building for $1.225 million, hoping to use funds budgeted for Public Safety Facility Improvements.

Renovations will be necessary before the building becomes the new headquarters for the Wichita Falls Police Department and municipal court.

The deal is expected to be completed on November 16. The goal is to have the needs assessment and programming done by March 2026, the design completed by October 2026, construction bids in by November 2026, and construction begin by January 2027.
