GLADEWATER, Texas (KETK) —
Just two weeks after Billy Byrd announced his retirement, Gov. Abbott has secured his replacement as the Upshur Criminal District Attorney.
Gov. Abbott appointed Billy Wallace, of Gladewater on Tuesday. Wallace currently holds the title of first assistant for the Upshur County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, but will step into his new role on Nov. 1. He’s a member of the Texas District and County Attorneys Association, the northeast Texas Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas.
Wallace received a Bachelor of Arts in History from East Texas A&M University (formerly East Texas State University) and a Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University. He was also honorably discharged from the navy.
Wallace will start his tenure as district attorney on Nov. 1, and his term will end on Dec. 31, 2026, or upon the election of a duly appointed successor.
