TYLER, Texas (KETK) – The Greater East Texas Black Nurses Association gave away $21,000 in scholarships at their annual awards and recognition dinner on Sunday.
The nonprofit is made up of Black nurses who are giving back by providing mentoring, tutoring and scholarships for the next generation of nurses. On Sunday, they awarded $21,000 in scholarships to nursing students, Jashae Jackson and McKinzie Minor.
“It means that there’s less of a financial burden for our student nurses,” Greater East Texas Black Nurses Association president said. “Some are licensed and some aren’t, so it just eases the financial burden of nursing school.”
