Southern Denton County fire departments respond to multiple early morning fires
At least five house fires were responded to by local fire departments early Friday morning as intense thunderstorms rolled through Denton County.
The Flower Mound Fire Department had a hand in all of them, responding to a total of five structure fires within 23 minutes.
Around 3 a.m., Flower Mound FD and Lewisville FD provided help to Double Oak’s Volunteer Fire Department in response to a structure fire in Double Oak on Whistling Duck Lane.
Then, Flower Mound firefighters assisted Denton County Emergency Services District No. 1 and 2 in putting out a house fire on Atticus Way in Northlake’s Pecan Square community.
The department also helped with at least one of three structure fires that were reported in Coppell around 3 a.m.
Within Town limits, Flower Mound FD was dispatched to the 2800 block of Hornby Lane and the 2900 block of Parkhaven Drive within 38 seconds of each other.
Officials said the two fires started in the attic and appear to have been caused by lightning strikes.
Flower Mound’s firefighters were assisted by fire departments from Highland Village, Lewisville, Grapevine, Roanoke and Denton.
Denton County ESD No. 1 and 2 responded to a pair of fires in Northlake.
Starting at 2:38 a.m., ESD firefighters were dispatched to the 1800 block of Elm Place in Pecan Square to a house fire that started on the roof. Crews were able to extinguish the fire by 3:23 a.m. with no injuries.
At 3 a.m., crews responded to a small fire in the attic of a home in the Harvest community. The fire was put out by 3:31 a.m. with no injuries.
The Justin Volunteer Fire Department helped Denton County ESD in its response.
“Emergency responses were a team effort across the metroplex overnight, and our district was no exception,” said Megan Reynolds, Denton County ESD No. 1 and 2’s director of community outreach and public relations. “Thank you to the agencies that provided aid, especially Flower Mound and Justin.”
With more severe weather anticipated Friday evening, local departments advise residents to stay inside and remain weather aware.
Denton County ESD offers a service for citizens to get emergency weather alerts through Everbridge.
