A 35-year-old Donna man pleaded guilty to causing the death of a man after striking him in the face several times, causing the victim to fall after being confronted about his behavior toward the suspect’s daughter.

Travis Leon Trevino entered his guilty plea for manslaughter on Tuesday for the death of 41-year-old Isaac Martinez, who died Dec. 14, 2024, court records show.

At around 5:59 p.m. on Dec. 13, 2024 Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call regarding aggravated assault and were dispatched to the 3200 block of Geronimo Street in rural Weslaco, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

It was there that Martinez’s ex-wife explained to police that she traveled to Geronimo Street to drop off her 11-year-old son with Martinez who was drinking with several men at the time.

According to the release, the ex-wife’s daughter asked Martinez for money during the visit, which led to an argument.

It was then that Trevino confronted Martinez regarding his behavior toward his daughter and struck him multiple times in the face causing him to fall, according to witnesses.

Martinez’s ex-wife then took him back to his residence on Bustamante Street to seek help.

Deputies observed Martinez to be unresponsive in a bloody shirt, so he was transported to Knapp Medical Center for treatment, only to be transferred to South Texas Health System McAllen where he was pronounced dead.

The release said that an autopsy determined Martinez’s cause of death to be the injuries sustained during the assault.

Trevino remains jailed in the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center on $210,000 in bonds. He is scheduled to be sentenced in December.
