Man sentenced to life in prison following 2023 Kaufman County murder
VAN ZANDT COUNTY, Texas (KETK)– A man responsible for a fatal shooting that took place in Kaufman County in 2023 was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Thursday.
According to the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Trevor McEuen was found guilty of capital murder on Thursday following the murder of Aaron Martinez, which took place in May 2023 in Kaufman County.
Martinez was killed on Neal Road in Forney. Following his death, officials said deputies found a victim dead inside the driver’s side of a new black Ford Pickup with several gunshot wounds. Outside the pickup, they found a shell casing from a firearm.
Afterwards, a deputy spoke with a witness who observed the shooting. “The witness stated that he observed [McEuen] run his vehicle into the victim’s vehicle, then begin to shoot at the victim’s vehicle several times,” an arrest affidavit said.
According to officials, McEuen then surrendered, was taken into custody, and transported to the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office interview room.
Hours before he was scheduled to appear in court on a murder charge in May, McEuen allegedly removed his ankle monitor and left his family’s home in Van Zandt County. After leaving his home, McCeuen was added to Texas’s 10 Most Wanted Fugitives List.
McCuen was eventually taken into custody on June 3 following a hours-long SWAT standoff at a home along U.S. Highway 80 in Grand Saline. Texas. Following his arrest, McCuen was taken to the Kaufman County Jail.
According to the Kaufman County District Attorney’s Office, following a four-day trial, a jury found McCuen guilty of capital murder, and he was sentenced on Thursday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
“Justice was served in this case thanks to the tireless efforts of our investigators, the District Attorney’s Office, and all the agencies that assisted throughout this investigation,” Kaufman County Sheriff Bryan Beavers stated. “Our thoughts remain with the Martinez family, and we hope this verdict brings them some measure of peace.”
