Wichita County highlights progress, savings in health services

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL)— Wichita County officials said transparency and open communication remain key priorities following a town hall meeting held Tuesday evening at Midwestern State University.

County Judge Jim Johnson and all four county commissioners hosted the public event on Tuesday, October 21, designed to give residents an opportunity to ask questions and express concerns about ongoing and future county initiatives, including infrastructure improvements and public safety investments.

Although turnout was low, Precinct 1 Commissioner Mark Beauchamp highlighted recent progress within the Human Services Office of Indigent Health, noting the office has become more efficient and cost-effective.

“We’re reducing cost; we’re also going out into the community,” Beauchamp said. “Last year, those costs had reduced 58%, down to $572,000 a year, for improved services. So that’s been a tremendous savings to our taxpayers.”

County leaders also provided updates on long-term planning efforts in infrastructure and community development, particularly in Precinct 4.

Officials say public meetings like this are held weekly to build trust and encourage civic involvement. They hope continued outreach will prompt more residents to engage with local government and participate in decision-making processes.
