Longview High School band achieves 76th consecutive top rating
LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) — The Longview High School band, known as the Big Green Marching Machine, earned its 76th consecutive first division rating at the University Interscholastic League(UIL) marching band contest this year.
As Longview ISD hosted 44 bands from across Texas for the UIL marching band contest, Longview High’s band states how they faced sunrise rehearsals, a rain delay, and a late-night performance. Longview ISD notes that the band showcased endurance, precision and pride as they took the field at 11:15 p.m.
The performance advanced the Longview band to the University Interscholastic League Area Marching Contest, continuing one of the longest streaks of musical excellence in Texas public education.
“There’s no way to truly put into words how proud we are,” said Longview High School Band Director Rhonda Daniel. “Hosting 44 bands is no small task, and our students, parents, band staff and Longview ISD team pulled together and made it happen. To finish the night with that level of excellence — after working all day — is a testament to the heart and resilience of our Big Green Marching Machine family.”
