Lake Wichita Veterans Plaza expands with new memorial monument

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — The Lake Wichita Revitalization Committee is advancing plans to expand the Veterans Plaza at Lake Wichita by adding the Thomas J. Fowler Memorial Monument.

The committee selected a design for the new memorial during last month’s meeting. The project is estimated to cost $250,000, with $90,000 currently set aside for it.

“We did get some quotes on pricing for expansion of the Veterans Memorial Plaza,” said Steve Garner, vice chair of the Lake Wichita Revitalization Committee. “What we’re going to do as part of the master plan is double the size of the brick walkway out to another module where we’re going to put the Thomas Fowler Monument.”

The expansion of the Veterans Plaza will involve extending the brick walkway to accommodate the new Thomas J. Fowler Memorial Monument. This project is part of a broader master plan to enhance the area.

Steve Garner mentioned that the committee must conduct significant fundraising efforts to cover the remaining $160,000 required for the project.

Community members interested in supporting the project can make monetary donations by contacting Steve Garner at (940) 781-1920.

With the design chosen and initial funds secured, the Lake Wichita Revitalization Committee is focused on raising the additional funds needed to complete the Veterans Plaza expansion.
