Major line break prompts boil water notice in San Augustine

SAN AUGUSTINE, Texas (KETK) — The San Augustine area was issued a boil water notice on Monday due to a major line break with all affected customers encouraged to boil water prior to consumption.

All customers on the following roads in the Harmony, Fountain Town and Woodland Acres communities have been notified by the N.E.W Water Supply Corporation to boil their water before use:

  • Farm to Market Road 711
  • County Road 202
  • County Road 203
  • County Road 205
  • County Road 223

According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), people with weakened immune systems along with children and seniors are particularly at risk to harmful bacteria

The TCEQ recommends that vulnerable people vigorously boil their water for two minutes and cool all water for drinking or human consumption purposes to ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes.

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.

Public water system officials will issue a notice to customers once the boil water notice is no longer in effect. Residents are encouraged to also share information regarding the notice to all other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have been notified directly.

Those interested in learning more information about the boil water notice can contact N.E.W Water Supply Corporation at 220 West Columbia Street in San Augustine or call 936-288-0489.
