Tuberculosis cases reported at Bradshaw Jail in Henderson

HENDERSON, Texas (KETK) — Officials have confirmed at least five cases of tuberculosis at the Bradshaw State Jail in Henderson, occurring between June 23rd and September 24th.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) is aware of these cases and is working closely with the Department of Health and Human Services to manage them. The cases were identified over a three-month period, raising concerns about the spread of the disease within the facility.

UT Health has recently confirmed seeing a case of tuberculosis and took precautions by isolating the patient in a negative-pressure airflow room to protect staff, patients, and the community.

UT Health’s use of a negative-pressure airflow room is a standard procedure to prevent the spread of airborne diseases, highlighting the seriousness with which health officials are treating the situation.

The TDCJ has stated that it is collaborating with health authorities to ensure the containment and treatment of tuberculosis cases. This collaboration is crucial in preventing further spread of the disease within the jail and the surrounding community.

Officials will continue to work on managing the situation to ensure public safety.
