TEXARKANA, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) — It might not feel like fall quite yet, but that’s not stopping the Fall Farmer’s Market from opening up in Texarkana.
“Some people have more vegetables now that they were able to replant their garden later in the year so you’re kind of getting a new fresh, crops and, just new products that are more fall related. The weather’s going to be nicer, so I think people are ready for that cooler weather to kind of get out again.” says Cole Starr, recreation coordinator for the Texarkana, TX Parks and Recreation Deparmtent.
This is the second year the parks department has hosted the fall version of the market. This year it will be held at the Southwest Center on West 7th Street.
“It was a good first year but our thought with having it out here was that there’s a little more traffic on this road and we already have a lot of built in activities at the Southwest Center so hopefully that would even increase our traffic.” says Starr.
Parks and rec says they have around 30 vendors who’ve expressed interest in participating. Vendors like Jon Tignor of 71G Farms, who sells a variety of homemade products like salsas, pickles, jams, and fresh eggs.
“This is what we love to do. We’re out here living life and trying not to be in the rat race working for somebody else and just enjoying our time with each other and on the farm. Just being grateful for what we have.” says Tignor.
A wide variety of vendors are invited to take part and share the products they are passionate about with the community.
“We do have our traditional produce vendors. We have meat vendors as well, which is pretty interesting, and then people who make their homemade goods. Everything from homemade pickles to crafts.”
The fall market will be open every Tuesday from four to seven p.m. through October 28th.
