Texas resident wins $85K at World Series of Poker
ARGYLE (KDAF) — Poker.Org was on the ground at Horseshoe Council Bluffs for the World Series of Poker (WSOP), which awarded more than $1 million across 18 trophy events during its most recent Circuit stop.
From September 4 to 15, twelve straight days of poker brought together local talent and traveling players.
The biggest prize of the series was won by Ryan Brown, from Argyle, Texas, who took first place in the $1,700 buy-in Main Event, outlasting a field of 275 entrants. Brown defeated Christopher Rodriguez as his final opponent to win his first WSOP Circuit ring, along with $85,239 in prize money and a $5,000 package to compete at WSOP Paradise in The Bahamas this December.
“There’s a ton of ups and downs in poker and poker tournaments, life, you can’t just expect it to go all up all the time,” Brown said to PokerOrg following his victory. “Chris definitely made my life hard at the final table the entire time, not just heads-up. He played great, and I was fortunate to turn it around and win a flip in the end.”
Beyond the Main Event, significant paydays were earned by a handful of players from across the Midwest, along with a ringer from Las Vegas.
| Tournament | Winner | Hometown | Prize |
| Event #3 Mini Main | Liam Gannon | La Grange Park, IL | $28,903 |
| Event #7 Seniors Event | Lee Rzentkowski | Madison, WI | $16,047 |
| Event #11 Monster Stack | Andre Allen | Grandview, MO | $22,035 |
| Event #12 $1K NLH | Ari Engel | Las Vegas, NV | $22,372 |
Engel, one of the winningest poker players in WSOP Circuit history, cemented his place in poker history yet again. His first-place finish in Event #12 earned him his 20th WSOP trophy ring, putting him just one behind the all-time leader Maurice Hawkins – the only two players ever to hit that milestone.
