State Rep. Trent Ashby visits Athens residents on Texas State Senate campaign trail

ATHENS, Texas (KETK)– Athens residents had the opportunity to meet with State Rep. Trent Ashby, R-(Lufkin), on Thursday afternoon as he continues his campaign for the District 3 seat in the Texas Senate.

Ashby hosted a meet-and-greet at the Jalapeno Tree in Athens, giving people the opportunity to hear from him directly. Ashby also spoke about his campaign and proposals he would make if elected to the Texas Senate.

Ashby announced his campaign for the Senate in June, shortly after Senator Robert Nichols announced he would not be seeking re-election. Ashby released a statement shortly after his announcement promising to protect East Texans’ way of life.

“It’s been the honor of a lifetime to serve you in the Texas House. Now I’m stepping up to fight for our rural values in the Texas Senate,” Ashby said. “I’m running to protect our East Texas way of life, defend our conservative principles and ensure our voice is heard loud and clear in Austin.”

Ashby represents Texas House District 9, which is entirely within Senate District 3 and covers the cities of Crockett, Lufkin, Groveton, Livingston, Woodville, and San Augustine. Ashby was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2013.
