Man fatally shoots himself in Brownsville Police Department parking lot
A man shot and killed himself Tuesday afternoon in the Brownsville Police Department public parking lot after firing shots at a woman who went to the station to file a report against him.
In a Facebook post, police said the shooting happened at approximately 1:08 p.m.
“According to the preliminary investigation, a victim and her companion arrived at the police station to file a report against a suspect,” the post read. “While they were in the front parking lot, the suspect, who was in a vehicle unknown to the victim, shot in their direction. Immediately following the shots, the suspect turned the firearm on himself.”
The woman and her companion were not injured and police say there is no ongoing threat to the community or surrounding area.
“As the investigation continues, the main entrance to the police station will remain blocked off,” authorities said.
This is an ongoing investigation and updates will be provided as more information becomes available, police said.
