Former Hidalgo County jailer accused of bringing drugs into detention center

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday arrested a former jailer on charges he conspired with an inmate and outside individuals to bring drugs into the county jail.
Ronaldo Rodriguez was arrested Tuesday and charged with prohibited substances and items in correction or civil commitment and engaging in organized criminal activity, according to a news release.
“At the time of the alleged offenses, Rodriguez was employed at the detention facility,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “A (weeks-long) investigation alleges that he conspired with an inmate and outside individuals to introduce illegal narcotics into the facility.”
Hidalgo County Sheriff J.E. “Eddie” Guerra said his office is committed to preserving public confidence.
“We take these allegations seriously and I am committed to preserving the public’s confidence and trust in (the) Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office,” Guerra said in the release. “We will continue to investigate any and all allegations of employee misconduct, and will take the necessary and appropriate actions to maintain accountability and transparency.”
The investigation is ongoing.
