UTRGV Football dominates Langston University at Vackar Stadium
EDINBURG — The UTRGV Vaqueros took care of business again to improve to 3-0 on the season after handling NAIA’s Langston University by a score of 80-0 at Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium on Saturday night in Edinburg.
The Vaqueros, an NCAA DI FCS program, is three tiers above the NAIA and it showed as UTRGV raced out to a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and eventually, a 52-0 halftime lead.
It was expected after two impressive wins. The first, the home opener against Sul Ross State and the second, a road win against Prairie View A&M last week.
Valley native and senior Vaquero quarterback Eddie Lee Marburger threw three first-half touchdowns. He went 12-for-19 with 206 passing yards. Marburger threw two touchdowns to Xayvion Noland, from 42 and 70 yards.

Marburger also found Tony Diaz for a 35-yard touchdown.
The Vaqueros were running the ball strong early. Freshman Tyler Day broke free for a 70-yard touchdown in the first quarter. TJ Dement scored from 14 yards and San Benito native Fabian Garcia found the end zone from 21 yards before the half.
UTRGV’s first interception in program history went to Elijah Graham. He celebrated it in the end zone after housing it. Graham also picked off another pass. Logic Hudgens also grabbed an interception, his was only 32 seconds after Graham’s pick-six in the first quarter.

The scoring continued into the second half for the Vaqueros. Backup Quarterback Aidan Jakobsohn tossed two touchdown passes. He hit Cameron Gleen from 8 yards and Javien Cuff for a 15-yard touchdown.
The Vaqueros kept pounding it on the ground to kill the clock, but found the end zone with Djouvensky Schlenbaker, he scored from 63 yards and Broderick Taylor, a Corpus Christi native Broderick Taylor took it 33 yards to the house to make it 80-0.
UTRGV returns to action against Texas Wesleyan in its last non-conference game. They play at 7 p.m. Saturday at Vackar Stadium in Edinburg.
