Sabine County routine traffic stop uncovers more than 140 grams of meth

SABINE COUNTY, Texas (KETK)– The Sabine County Sheriff’s Office found more than 140 grams of methamphetamine early Wednesday morning after a routine traffic stop in Milam.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies conducted a traffic stop around 2 a.m. near the intersection of Texas Highway 87 and Carter Ferry Road East for an equipment violation.

Officials said that deputies determined that the driver, identified as 26-year-old Devan Keith Newman of Milam, had a suspended driver’s license. He was then arrested for driving with an invalid license.

The passenger, 56-year-old Philip Eugene Wiseman Jr. of Milam, also had a suspended driver’s license and could not legally operate a vehicle in Texas.

Deputies requested a wrecker to the service to the scene and began conducting an inventory of the vehicle’s contents. “During the inventory, under the floormat of the front passenger side was found a small bin which contained two large plastic baggies that both contained a total of 141.51 grams of methamphetamines between them,” the sheriff’s office said. “Wiseman and Newman denied possession of the meth, and both were arrested for manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance.”

Wiseman and Newman were transported to the Sabine County Sheriff’s Office, where they are currently being held until their bond is set.
