YOUNG CO. (KFDX/KJTL) — Officers and deputies from multiple law enforcement agencies gathered to say goodbye to one of their own.
On Wednesday, September 3, Young County deputies, Olney police officers and law enforcement came together to pay their last respects to retired canine deputy Rocky.
Rocky and his handler, Devin Wright, worked side-by-side for the Young County Sheriff’s Office until Wright transitioned to the Olney Police Department a few years ago.
Rocky retired from the Sheriff’s Office after serving four years with the force.
Officer Wright and his family adopted Rocky, who spent the last few years of his life as a pet.
Rocky passed away a few days ago with age-related illnesses, and Devin was by his side.
He earned second place in tracking and third place in patrol with USPCA Region 25 and a life-saving award after tracking an individual with a medical crisis.
“Rocky was a part of our family,” Wright said. “There were only a few people in his life that he was comfortable being around or would allow to be around him. Of course, my wife and I are two of those people. My daughter Tori was one of them. And then my mother-in-law was one of those people he liked to be around. It was kind of a really cool relationship between them. She fed him after he retired most nights just because she wanted to. And she also helped out a lot with taking care of him.”
Rocky was honored with his last call for service at the Young County Sheriff’s Office.
Faith Companions in Strawn covered the expense for his creation.
Rocky was 10 years old.
