State Loop 287 widening project starting in Lufkin
LUFKIN, Texas (KETK) – The Texas Department of Transportation is starting a widening project on State Loop 287 in Lufkin this week.
The project is aimed at improving traffic conditions on the loop from U.S. Route 59 and Copeland Street. Once the project is completed in the spring of 2027, new dedicated lanes will connect U.S. Route 59 to Southwood Drive and College Drive, letting drivers take more time while getting on and off the loop.
Contractors from Longview Bridge and Road will start placing traffic barricades where the loop crosses the Union Pacific Railroad line and FM 324 on Wednesday.
“During the first phase of the work, the existing road between BUS 59 and the railroad will be milled and widened. The entrance and exit ramps at BUS 59 will be widened, along with the east-bound ramp at FM 324/Southwood Drive,” TxDOT said. “The second phase of the project will mill and widen the roadway between FM 324/Southwood Drive and Copeland Street, and the exit ramps west of the railroad at FM 324/Southwood Drive.”
