Tyler Police stepping up enforcement for Labor Day weekend

TYLER, Texas (KETK) – The Tyler Police Department is stepping up their drunk driving enforcement for Labor Day weekend as more drivers head out on the roads.

“I think as the city gets bigger, of course those numbers are going to kind of grow. But doing this kind of program keeps it as low as we can because there’s nothing better than having more officers on the street that simply don’t answer calls, they just patrol and look for those that are impaired,” Tyler Police Department public information officer Andy Erbaugh said. “What that hopefully will do is keep people from drinking and driving.”

Their added drunk driving enforcement will start on Friday, Aug. 29, and end on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Tyler PD said anyone who does drink this weekend should get a ride home from a sober designated driver or from a ridesharing app.
