The Blackstone Hotel to return in Downtown Tyler

TYLER, Texas (KETK) — A new hotel is coming to downtown Tyler, marking a significant investment in the city’s hospitality infrastructure.

The Blackstone Hotel will be developed by Valencia Hotel Group, a Houston-based company, and is expected to feature 144 rooms, a 5,700-square-foot meeting space, and a ballroom terrace overlooking downtown.

“At the 2024 State of the City event, I announced that Valencia Hotel Group would develop a hotel in Downtown Tyler, and this agreement brings that commitment closer to reality,” City of Tyler Mayor Don Warren said.

The Blackstone first welcomed guests back in November 1922, an iconic landmark during its time. It was known to be a hub for oil deals and the place for social events. It marked the corner of North Broadway and Locust Street before it was imploded in 1985.

The City’s incentives for the project will be capped at $12 million and will be solely funded from revenues generated by the hotel. This move is expected to bring in new jobs, expand business opportunities and improve city services funded by tourism-driven tax revenue.

Construction is expected to take about 42 months or 3.5 years, with the CEO of Valencia, Doyle Graham, saying construction will start immediately.

The new hotel development is anticipated to enhance Tyler’s hospitality offerings and contribute to the city’s economic growth through increased tourism and business opportunities.
