Multi-agency sting leads to 25-year-old man’s arrest in East Texas car burglary spree
TITUS COUNTY, Texas (KETK) — A multi-agency operation led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man for a string of vehicle burglaries across two East Texas counties.
According to the Titus County Sheriff’s Office, during the early morning hours of Aug. 15, burglars stole from unlocked vehicles parked at homes in three different areas, including:
- Near the Mount Pleasant Country Club
- Walker Street Subdivision in Camp County
- East Lake Tankersly
Officials said the burglars were able to steal a significant amount of cash and at least two handguns.
“The burglaries of unlocked vehicles continued until one homeowner discovered the activity,” the sheriff’s office said. “The homeowner fired a warning shot, and one of the burglars ran to an awaiting vehicle. Investigators believe that before leaving, the suspects un-justifiably returned fire in the general direction of the residence they had just been scared away from.”
After an intense investigation by the Mount Pleasant Police Department, Titus County Sheriff’s Office and Camp County Sheriff’s Office, 25-year-old Zadarrius Tremaine Gamble was arrested on Wednesday for the following charges:
- Three counts of engaging in organized criminal activity
- One count of deadly conduct, discharge a firearm
- Two counts of theft of a firearm
- Three counts of burglary of a vehicle
Gamble is currently being held at the Titus County Jail on a $957,500 bond. Officials said more charges are expected as the investigation continues.
The sheriff’s office encourages people to lock the doors to their vehicles and to remove valuable items, especially firearms.
