Arp Elementary assistant principal faces charges for failing to report child sexual assault

ARP, Texas (KETK) — The Arp Elementary assistant principal was arrested on Tuesday morning after she allegedly gave a false report to a peace officer.

According to the Arp Police Department, Karla Florence was arrested after she allegedly failed to “provide accurate and truthful information to investigators, as well as her legal duty, under Texas law, to report knowledge of a felony offense when serving in her capacity as an educator.”

Karla was charged with failure to report and false report to a peace officer, while Blake Florence was arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child and tampering with physical evidence. Both of them were transported to the Smith County Jail.

“The protection of children and the preservation of community trust remain our highest priorities,” Arp PD said. “The Arp Police Department is committed to pursuing justice wherever the evidence leads and will continue to dedicate every available resource to this case. While the investigation is ongoing, we urge the community to understand that additional charges may be filed as more evidence is reviewed.”

Arp PD said that due to the sensitive nature of the allegations and to protect the victim involved, no further information will be released at this time.

“We appreciate the patience, trust, and cooperation of our community as we work diligently to bring this matter to a just resolution,” Arp PD said. “The Arp Police Department will provide updates as appropriate.”
