TYLER, Texas (KETK)– Tyler Junior College will be holding auditions in September for their 37th annual presentation of the famous classical ballet, “The Nutcracker.”

According to TJC, auditions will be held on Sept. 5 and Sept. 6 inside the dance wing of the Ornelas Center, located on Apache Pass and Palmer Avenue at the TJC central campus.

“Nutcracker season is always an exciting time, and we are thrilled to find our talented dancers and actors throughout East Texas,” TJC Academy of Dance Director Carolyn Hanna said.

“This production involves diverse community members, from amateur performers to our esteemed pre-professional program dancers. It is so exciting to watch families and friends connect and celebrate through the arts — we welcome anyone who’s interested to come and audition!”

Audition details

The annual Nutcracker is a large-scale production with more than 150 open performance roles, ages six through adult. Performers must be able to rehearse every Friday or Saturday and perform in every show.

Times

• Girls ages six to eight (must be age six by the audition date): 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
• Boys of all ages: 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
• Girls ages nine to twelve: 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
• Dancers invited to audition for the leading role of Clara: 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.
• Teens and college students: 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
• Adults and actors interested in the party scene: 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

People who are auditioning should arrive at least 20 minutes before their audition time to fill out paperwork and warm up.

The college said that all performances will be held in Wise Auditorium at the Rogers Palmer Arts Center on the TJC central campus.
