DALLAS (KDAF) — The Young Supporters Council (YSC) of Nexus Family Recovery Center will be hosting the 2nd Annual Duck Derby, set for Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 6–8 p.m. at a home in old Preston Hollow.

This community event combines friendly competition with meaningful impact, raising funds for the Nexus Child Development Center (CDC). The CDC is a fully-licensed childcare facility that provides services for children from infancy through school age, including those whose parents are in recovery programs at the Nexus Family Recovery Center.

Following the success of the inaugural Duck Derby in 2024, which raised over $5,000, the YSC is making the event a beloved annual tradition. A Duck Derby is a competition where hundreds of rubber ducks are “adopted” by participants, released into a pool or waterway (in this case, a pool), and race to the finish line. Last year’s festivities featured honorary chairs and sisters, Liv and Sam Tracy, delicious bites from Palmer’s Hot Chicken, beverages from Ben E. Keith, entertainment by DJ Tim P., and prizes for the Top Three fastest ducks.

“I’m excited about the enthusiasm and generosity from last year’s first-ever Duck Derby,” said Alexandra Hart, 2025 Event Chair. “It’s such a fun way for friends, families, and neighbors to come together, but the heart of the evening is the real difference we’re making for the children at the CDC. Every dollar raised helps create a safe, nurturing place for them while their mothers work toward recovery.”
