TikTok Top 5 from the RGV — Alien invasions and 50 shades of hell on earth
Hear ye, hear ye.
I come before you now but a humble servant to the masses, presenting you with another glorious edition of the best TikToks from local creators, according to yours truly.
Some of these have been included not necessarily because of any high production value. They may have inspired hilarious comments. Brought a smile to my face. Or simply made me forget, if only for a second, that we’re currently living through an ugly age of meanness.
That’s right. I said it. Some of y’all are unruly, meanspirited curmudgeons hellbent on upping your online rep as a troll. Browsing comment sections to plaster outrageously ignorant remarks on stories about good people doing good things has never been as unattractive as it is now.
Make no mistake, folks. I’m nothing like my colleagues and peers in this industry. I will respond. In fact, I relish in it. Likely because I’m not talented enough to do anything else but lash out.
And that’s where these creators come in. They are talented, and funny enough to remind us that there are far more decent human beings than haters in the world.

Notes: I love this account. The Unknown RGV peeps have gone Randonautica hunting and urban exploring at some of the region’s supposedly haunted locations, or simply really old, dilapidated buildings. In this case, the fine folks behind this TikTok account decided to take a drive by an old home in Edinburg and asked if it was abandoned, but it’s the comments from people providing clarity or making cracks about the skyrocketing property tax rates I found interesting. It reminded me of the urban legends in my hometown of San Benito, and how most of them were probably just rumors. Anyway. Happy hunting. Stay away from Ouija boards.

This business review account posed the question of whether people use the term chalupas or tostadas to refer to a popular Mexican dish. But regardless of what the right answer is (it’s chalupas), I love the energy in the comments.
