2025 Nexstar Sports Awards: Small School Female Athlete of the Year
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — The seventh annual Nexstar Sports Awards and Hall of Fame banquet kicked off at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2025, inside D.L. Ligon Coliseum on the campus of Midwestern State University.
The nominees for Small School Female Athlete of the Year included three female athletes who attended and played for a Class 1A, 2A, or 3A high school in Texoma during the 2024-2025 school year.
The three nominees for the 2025 Small School Female Athlete of the Year are listed below:
- Remi Buchanan — Electra Lady Tigers
- Flo Richardson — Harrold Lady Hornets
- Brailyn Tullous — Jacksboro Tigerettes
WINNER — Remi Buchanan (Electra Lady Tigers)
Electra Lady Tiger Remi Buchanan was named UIL District 6-2A’s Most Valuable Player during the 2024 volleyball season, earning TGCA All-State Honors after racking up 455 kills, 235 digs, and 55 service aces.
On the basketball court, Buchanan averaged over 11 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
On the softball diamond, Buchanan was once again a force to be reckoned with as a pitcher, amassing 161 strikeouts and a 1.43 earned run average in 78 innings pitched, which included a perfect game and two no-hitters, surpassing 800 strikeouts in her high school career.
Buchanan was a force to be reckoned with offensively as well, leading the Lady Tigers with a .537 batting average and 21 runs batted in. She was also a regional qualifier in both track and tennis.
Buchanan became the second Electra Lady Tiger in school history to sign a National Letter of Intent in softball. She’ll continue her career at Vernon College.
