2025 Nexstar Sports Awards: Media Relations MVP
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — The seventh annual Nexstar Sports Awards and Hall of Fame banquet kicked off at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2025, inside D.L. Ligon Coliseum on the campus of Midwestern State University.
Across the 10-month sports season, including every team in Texoma and the many sports they participate in, keeping track of final scores and statistics would be impossible without the coaches, trainers, school districts, and parents who send information to our newsroom.
Unlike professional or college sports, information, final scores, and accurate statistics aren’t readily available online for local high school sports, and without the individuals who are willing to share that information, it wouldn’t be possible to find it anywhere.
During the 2024 Nexstar Sports Awards, the Media Relations MVP award was introduced, recognizing a school’s athletic program for promoting their school, team, and athletes, and ensuring that information and stats make it to the KFDX and KJTL newsroom every gameday, in a timely manner, so our team can report accurately to the community.
WINNER — Windthorst High School
The winner of the Media Relations MVP Award at the 2025 Nexstar Sports Awards was Windthorst High School.
“They make sure we have scores and information about their games, either through text, calls, or social media,” KFDX Sports Director Tobin McDuff said.
“They reach out when they have a story idea, they’re quick to respond when we need the name of an athlete not on the roster, and we always feel welcome at their events,” McDuff said.
Accepting the award on behalf of the Windthorst Trojans on Thursday, July 10, 2025, was Windthorst ISD Athletic Director Chris Tackett and Mike Rueschenberg.
