2025 Nexstar Sports Awards: College Female Athlete of the Year
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — The seventh annual Nexstar Sports Awards and Hall of Fame banquet kicked off at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2025, inside D.L. Ligon Coliseum on the campus of Midwestern State University.
The nominees for College Female Athlete of the Year included three female athletes who attended and played for a college or university located within Texoma during the 2024-2025 school year.
The three nominees for the 2025 College Female Athlete of the Year are listed below:
- Zarria Carter — Midwestern State University (Women’s Basketball)
- Kerbie Cash — Midwestern State University (Women’s Basketball)
- Nidhi Singh — Midwestern State University (Track & Field)
WINNER — Zarria Carter (MSU Women’s Basketball)
Carter, a senior for the Midwestern State University Lady Mustangs basketball team, led the Lone Star Conference in three statistical categories: scoring, rebounding, and steals.
Carter was number one in scoring, averaging nearly 21 points per game. She was also top of the league in rebounds, with more than 10 per game.
Carter finished her senior season in fifth place in the nation for double-doubles, racking up 17 during the 2024-25 season.
The 6-foot-1 power forward from Mansfield, Texas, won the Lone Star Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year honor.
Carter, who transferred to MSU Texas in 2023 when Brenita Jackson was hired as head coach, leaves Wichita Falls with the second-best field goal percentage in program history.
