According to the sheriff’s office, their deputies and investigators were given information about an “illegal cockfighting event” that was being held in the 900 block of County Road 3925 in the early hours of July 4th.

Investigators reviewed statements and evidence before applying for a search and arrest warrant from 276th District Judge Michael Kopech. The warrant was issued and the sheriff’s office searched the property.

Timothy C. Thompson, 52 of Titus County, was then arrested for cockfighting and four counts of cruelty to a livestock animal, according to a post from the sheriff’s office. Thompson has been booked into the Titus County Jail and is currently waiting for his arraignment by a magistrate judge.

The sheriff’s office said they are continuing to investigate other potential suspects in this case.
