Wichita Falls father jailed on $100K bond for choking infant
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Wichita Falls Police arrested a father Wednesday after they said he choked his 3-month-old infant.
Brendon Eugene Havelka, 24, was arrested on Wednesday, June 25. Police charged him with “Assault-Family Violence-Choking” after the victim’s mother presented video footage to Child Protective Services.
According to police documents, the video showed Havelka lift the crying child from a baby swing with both hands wrapped around the infant’s neck. He then applied pressure as his right hand grasped the left side of the infant’s neck, which caused the infant to stop crying and making any audible noise.
The video also showed that as soon as Havelka released the pressure from the infant’s neck, the child began to cry again. Havelka then patted the infant’s mouth multiple times, which police said showed further aggression.
Police documents stated they were able to conclude that Havelka’s actions would cause pain and possible damage to the blood vessels, airway, and other structures. They also said the pressure applied by Havelka would cause pain to an adult, much less a 3-month-old infant.
As of publication, Havelka is in the Wichita County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
