Sheppard Air Force Base increases security after “world events”

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Sheppard Air Force Base implemented increased security following recent “world events” based on guidance from the U.S. Northern Command.

On June 14, USNORTHCOM advised that all military installations receive additional security measures for their base operations.

Employees and visitors should expect more security on the installation, along with a potential longer wait time to access the base. These increased services will remain as long as they are seen as necessary.

These measures by USNORTHCOM are in place to protect bases, families, and other material resources from terrorist acts.

Officials said strong partnerships between bases and USNORTHCOM allow for threats to be identified and mitigated before a serious action occurs.

Installation commanders can increase Force Protection Condition (FPCON) level, add measures from higher FPCON levels, or add measures from FPCON levels not advised by USNORTHCOM if they sense a higher threat on their installation.

According to a press release from SAFB, these security increases will not change the mission of Sheppard AFB. The base will still recruit, train, and educate Airmen to be mission-ready with technical and flight training.
