Resource Center has appointed Dr. R. Douglas Hardy as Chief Medical Officer. As Resource Center expands comprehensive medical care for the LGBTQIA+ community, Hardy will provide direct patient care and lead the medical team at the new Resource Center Health. The new facility offers a one-stop location, prioritizing the needs of the LGBTQ community in North Texas. Comprehensive services include primary healthcare, a pharmacy to open October 1, mental healthcare, HRT, PrEP, STI/STD testing and HIV/AIDS care and support, including nutrition services and case management.
Resource Center Health represents the consolidation of staff and services from two previous locations, into a renovated 20,000 square-foot building across the street from Oak Lawn Place, Resource Center’s affordable housing for individuals age 55+. It is easily accessible from the Inwood/Love Field DART rail station and multiple bus lines and has ample parking.
Hardy is a seasoned infectious disease and HIV specialist with extensive experience in clinical care and research. Since February 2023, he has served at Prism Health North Texas, focusing on HIV, infectious diseases, pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP), and clinical research in collaboration with Baylor University Medical Center.
Previously, Hardy was the practice administrator and attending physician at ID Specialists, P.A. from 2009 to 2023. During this time, he also held key leadership roles in infection control and antimicrobial stewardship at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Plano and the Heart Hospital Baylor Plano, where he served from 2010 to 2023.
His academic background includes professorships at UT Southwestern (2001-2009) and medical training at UT Southwestern and UT Houston, with degrees from UT Southwestern Medical School and UT Austin.
Hardy has served on editorial boards and held executive positions within the American Society for Microbiology. His awards include the UTSW Division of Infectious Diseases Teaching Award and the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society — Research Fellowship Award. He was also involved in the Doctors Ought to Care Anti-Smoking Campaign and international medical service. During his undergraduate studies at UT Austin, he graduated cum laude, was a member of honor societies and Lambda Chi Alpha, and participated in the University of Texas Premedical Association, supported by an NROTC Scholarship.
“I am honored to be appointed as the Chief Medical Officer to this groundbreaking and comprehensive initiative. This appointment enables the unprecedented integration and delivery of a full range of programs, offering a holistic experience to our clientele, all within a unified, readily accessible location,” Hardy said.
Resource Center has a proud, 42-year history of fighting for fundamental rights, including access to healthcare. “We were founded, in part, as a frontline responder to the HIV pandemic, in a time of outright government indifference and hostility and a dearth of adequate medical care. Today, we continue to face obstacles as state laws are passed to restrict healthcare for LGBTQIA+ individuals and the current administration is cutting HIV and STI prevention funding. Resource Center is here for our community regardless of such barriers, and we will not stop,” said Cece Cox, chief executive officer.
