Gov. Abbott signs Shofner’s Adopt-a-County Road bill into law
TYLER, Texas (KETK) – Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed East Texas State Representative Joanne Shofner’s Adopt-A-County Road program into law on Friday.
Shofner’s House Bill 2560 allows Texas county commissioners courts to enter into partnerships with people who make donations, gifts or grants to the county in order to maintain part of a county road.
“Thank you Governor Abbott! Our rural counties deserve these partnerships with industry to keep our roads maintained,” Shofner said on Friday.
Under these partnerships, the county will have to install Adopt-A-County Road signs in recognition of the individuals providing funds for repairing the roads they adopt.
The bill states that the county commissioners will have to decide how much money is required for a person to donate to receive recognition on a roadside sign. Under the bill all money received through the Adopt-A-County Road partnerships must only be used to repair and maintain the relevant county road.
HB 2560 will take effect as state law on Sept. 1, 2025.
