For the past several years, Dallas Voice has been fortunate to participate in Southern Methodist University’s summer intern program, and through that program we have had the pleasure of working with several outstanding young student journalists, including Melissa Whitler, who joined our staff for a year-long fellowship in partnership with News Is Out and NBCU and who continues to write for us.

This year, we are pleased to add another name to that list: Meet Darcy Bass, who is studying journalism, sports management and art history at SMU.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Darcy wrote for Marlborough School’s UltraViolet newspaper. She was head sports editor and head blogs editor while managing a monthly music review column, “Monthly Music.” She was the youngest staff member to have creative control of a column.

Upon her graduation in 2023, Darcy created a legacy with “Monthly Music” continuing the reviews for years to come.

From 2022-2023, Darcy was intern to the One Love Foundation’s West Coast executive director, orchestrating two major events: One Love’s Youth Leadership Summit at Loyola Marymount University and the One Day for One Love event in Sacramento where she selected One Love teen ambassadors to advocate for relationship health education at the California State Capitol.

Darcy worked for Alo Yoga in 2023, bolstering her love of Pilates and personal wellness.

As a student at SMU, Darcy writes for the school’s award-winning Daily Campus newspaper. As the official SMU Student Senate reporter, Darcy is the information liaison between the Senate and the SMU community.

Darcy currently lives in Dallas and plans to graduate SMU in May 2027. She’s a true California girl at heart, basking in the sun and exercising whenever she isn’t reporting.
