Alton man charged with murder for hitting, killing friend during disturbance

MISSION — A 29-year-old Alton man was charged Friday morning after allegedly running over his friend in what he says was an act of self defense.
Caleb Jeremiah Ramos was charged with murder Friday morning for the death of 31-year-old Marco Macias, a friend of Ramos’, Mission police spokesman Art Flores said.
At approximately 9:06 p.m. on Wednesday, Mission police received a call regarding a disturbance happening in the 200 block of El Ranchito Road.
When officers arrived, they found Macias dead at the property.
Over the course of the investigation and according to a witness, it was determined that Macias had been run over, Flores said.
“Investigators tracked the suspect who was driving a 2007 Cadillac Escalade at the time,” Flores said.
At 11: 42 a.m. on Thursday, Ramos was arrested in the 500 block of Ricardo Street in Palmview, according to Flores.
Following interviews, the auto-pedestrian case was determined to be a homicide.
“The individual intentionally and knowingly ran over one of his friends,” Flores said. “They are acquaintances. They know each other. It just happened that there was a disturbance between them.”
On Friday, Ramos spoke to the judge seemingly confused about the murder charge.
“Your honor, but why is that first-degree murder?” Ramos asked. “They were trying to kill me, I just moved out of the way.”
He then asked if they’d gathered all the evidence because it didn’t “sound right,” before officers took him away.
Ramos received a $2 million bond.
