concludes her 21-year tenure as founder and conductor of the New Texas Symphony Orchestra with a Mother’s Day concert on Sunday, May 11, at 3 p.m. in the Moody Performance Hall, 2520 Flora St. in the Dallas Arts District.

Admission is free, but reservations are required at TicketDFW.com.

Entitled “Coming of Age: Wisdom,” Brownlee’s farewell concert will bridge classical masterworks with contemporary Dallas talent, featuring The Skinny Cooks, known for their unique blend of jazz, classical, and hip-hop elements. It include Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Procession of the Nobles (Cortege)” from Miada Suite, Dvořák’s “Symphony No. 8 in G major, op. 88” and world premiers of works from Dallas composers Brianne Sargent and Nigel Newton, aka The Skinny Cooks.

“This program embodies everything we’ve worked to achieve at NTSO,” Brownlee noted. “We  will honor our classical foundations while embracing new voices and proving that orchestral music is alive and evolving in Dallas.”

NTSO’s search for new leadership has attracted more than 50 qualified applicants from across the nation. Steven Couch, NTSO search committee chair, said, “The caliber of candidates speaks volumes about what Dr. Brownlee has created here in Dallas and the NTSO’s reputation in the classical world.

“We look forward to the challenge of selecting the NTSO’s next conductor and artistic director — not someone to replace Cathy, who will remain on our board to help guide us into the future, but who will continue with our mission of making classical musical accessible to everyone.”

Founded in 2004, the New Texas Symphony Orchestra is a volunteer-based music organization of more 80 musicians that provides professional-level orchestral performances free to the Dallas community through its innovative “Free for ALL” concert series. For more information, visit NTSO.org.
