ELECTRA (KFDX/KJTL) — The red carpet is rolling out in Electra this weekend as the 5th annual Cowpokes International Film Festival makes its return to the historic Grand Theatre.
The event kicked off Friday, April 25, and will feature a mix of film screenings, live performances and networking opportunities, culminating in a major awards show on Sunday, April 27.
One of the highlights of the weekend is an acoustic performance by Maddison Hughes, a standout from NBC’s The Voice, who will take the stage on the night of Saturday, April 26 at 8:30 p.m.
On top of that, the prestigious “Cowpoke of the Year Award” will be presented by actor and director Moe Headwick, who starred in Killers of the Flower Moon and was the first-ever recipient of the award.
Cowpoke Festival Director Rock Whitehead discussed what the award represents.
“It’s a Texas-based filmmaker who has the heart of the old west, and that can be a writer, a filmmaker, anyone who focuses on the western genre,” Whitehead said.
Following Sunday’s award show, everyone is invited to the Crazy Horse Saloon for a karaoke-themed after-party.
