Happy Thursday, Are you looking for the right opportunity to ditch your car, even if it’s just for a little while? You’re in luck, because cars will be off limits on West Magnolia Avenue this Saturday during the annual Open Streets: A Near Southside Experience to make way for non-motorized skateboards, bikes, skates and scooters. The Fort Worth event was founded in 2011 with the goal of encouraging neighborly interaction, healthy activity and open street awareness. Not looking to roll? There will be a designated zone for folks looking to enjoy free family-friendly activities. Vendors will have booths selling vintage and artisan finds along with fresh produce and other goodies. I’ll be there for the first time to enjoy a nice stroll. I would bring my roller blades out of retirement, but it’s been too long since I used them and I don’t want to break myself. Have you experienced Open Streets in the past? If so, tell me about your experience by contacting me at david.moreno@fortworthreport.org. Pop a wheelie on the westbound travel lanes of Near Southside
During the event, Trinity Metro will host a community bike parade at 2 p.m. outside of Cherry Coffee Shop and MELT Ice Creams. The first 100 people to join will be entered for a chance to win a free annual pass.
