The Dish: Looking for Dubai chocolate ice cream? Fort Worth has it
The weather is already warm and I don’t know how I feel about it. I didn’t think April was the start of summer and it’s like I barely got to experiment with knitwear before it was snatched from my not-so-cold, not-so-dead hands. That said, warmer weather means we can discover our ice cream fixations for 2025. Some local spots are getting super creative with their menus lately, which I’m sure my dentist and I are equally excited about. While the old cliché is that you scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream, I’m a firm believer in using inside voices. Instead, let’s quietly look at what these restaurants are up to.Micholandia is channeling the Dubai chocolate ice cream trendThis Mexican paleteria with two Fort Worth locations is tapping into the popularity of Dubai chocolate and offering their own ice cream version. According to food writer Ali Domrongchai, Dubai chocolate is the name social media users assigned to a specific confection made in the Arab emirate by Fix Chocolatier that first went viral on TikTok last year. Fix’s Can’t Get Knafeh Of It is a milk chocolate bar filled with pistachio and kunafa, a Middle Eastern shredded pastry, and is only sold in the United Arab Emirates. Dubai chocolate ice cream is the latest iteration of this trendy dessert, with Aldi and other brands now selling their own versions. Micholandia has ice cream layered with Belgian chocolate, pistachio sauce and kunafa pastry. They have a second variety with strawberries. Micholandia also serves popsicles, agua frescas, shakes, snacks and bubble waffles, this month’s special.
